Test results

Getting your test results

If your test results show that you need more tests or treatment, we will contact you.

Once a doctor has reviewed your test results, you can view them:

  • in your NHS account (through the NHS website or NHS App)
  • in your Systm Online account
  • by phoning us on 01283 227870 between midday and 4pm
  • as a text message, if you have consented (blood results only)

Please be aware that if several blood tests have been taken, it may take up to 7 days for each individual blood result to come through. You may therefore receive several text messages (these may have differing content i.e. normal or to come in/ book a phone appointment/repeat test).

Please do not be concerned if you are asked to repeat a test, this is only so your clinician can have a comparative result.

If we text you to come in to discuss your result with a clinician, please book a routine appointment within 2 weeks. Alternatively you may be advised to make an phone appointment.

General information about test results

Please remember that the staff can only act in accordance with the clinician’s instructions so may not be able to give you a result. This does not necessarily mean that there is a problem but simply that the clinician needs to see you or talk to you to explain the whole situation.

Results can be given to someone other than the patient if previously arranged with the clinician.

The results of tests carried out during hospital visits are not normally sent to the practice.

Confidentiality

Results for patients over 16 years can only be given to the patient.

Laboratory specimens

All specimens must be received by 12:30pm on weekdays to link with the hospital courier service.

Please ensure the bottle is clearly marked with your name and date of birth.

Questions about your results

If you want to talk to someone about your results, fill out a test results request form and someone will be in touch.
