General Background

Introduction:

Gresleydale Healthcare Centre is the new purpose built home for the Prestwood House GP Practice. The practice has grown from a single-handed practice, when it was set up in 1982, to its present size with 5 partners and a branch surgery, the new building being necessary to house our growing patient population and increased clinical team.

After several years of planning and discussion we are delighted that our new surgery building was completed in April 2009 in Glamorgan Way, Church Gresley, on the new housing estate which now links Castle Road and Swadlincote Road. The surgery provides much larger premises with more consulting rooms, 2 treatment rooms, a multiple use Health Promotion room and more space for administration staff.

Investesting in Developing the Quality of Service:

Previously the Practice was a successful fund holding Practice and the ethos has always been to invest in developing the quality of service to patients and the training of staff to the highest standards.  We are an innovative Practice looking to promote and practice 21st Century General Practice.  Our approach is dynamic and we have embraced PCT work and are usually prepared to try things out and volunteer to pilot new schemes if they offer better care and services for our patients.  As a Practice we are interested and participate in clinical research and have always considered this as a very important part of General Practice. With the aim of improving the quality of care further we became a third waive Personal Medical Services (PMS) pilot in April 2001 and we continue to work towards our aims with regards to this as well as implementing the National Service Frameworks. We also try to explore possibilities of incorporating the latest technology into practice and are paperless with TPP SystmOne.

The practice's contractual arrangements are General Medical Services and we work to the Quality Outcome Framework - we have the infrastructure in place in order to achieve excellent results.

Teaching within the Practice:

We have been a Training Practice for several years with the Derby Vocational Training Scheme. Dr Redferne is the lead Trainer but the trainees spend time with all the Partners, who undertake training and tutorials.

The Future:

The Practice has been based around the two sites for a long time and the nature of General Practice dictates we continue to move forward to progress. With this in mind in 2009 we acquired new purpose-built premises, which saw the closure of our old branch site, with Prestwood House being maintained as a branch.

This is a very exciting time for the Practice as we continue to look towards an exciting future for General Practice and as always, we are thrilled to be at the forefront.
